Pizza is for many, comfort food by excellence. It’s a simple, tasty and convenient dish but… Are the traditional pizzas vegan friendly? I think not. Most of the time, they have ingredients that are a no-no for vegans. But don’t worry, that does not mean that you have to give up your marvelous pizza any time soon.

This amazing dish brings in nutrients, and tasty ingredients, such as a vegan bacon recipe to die for, and vegan cheese, amazing to combine with other dishes or to turn into a yummy spread. All the components of this dish are amazing on their own, of course they’d be incredible together. Check this recipe and try it to see that pizza has never been more vegan!

Ingredients

For the cheese

  • 1 cup of soaked cashews
  • 1/2 cup of filtered water
  • 3 tbs of nutritional yeast
  • 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp of salt

For the bacon

  • 1 tbs of agave syrup
  • 1 tbs of soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of cumin
  • 4 oz of sliced Tempeh

Toppings

  • Green bell pepper
  • Sliced black olives
  • Sliced baby Portobello mushrooms
  • Diced red onion
  • Basil

For the sauce

  • 2 tbs of olive oil
  • 4 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp of dried Italian seasonings
  • 1/2 cup of chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup of tomato paste
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of pepper

For the dough

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup of tapioca starch
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 2 chia eggs (2 tbs of ground chia seeds + 6 tbs of water – let sit for 10 minutes)
  • 2 tbs of olive oil
  • 3 tbs of water

Directions
1. CHEESE: add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth and set aside.

2- BACON: combine agave syrup, soy sauce, black pepper, and cumin in a bowl, add sliced Tempeh and let marinate for a few minutes. Cook in oiled pan on medium heat for 3 minutes each side and set aside.

3. SAUCE: add olive oil, garlic, Italian seasonings, and tomatoes to a pot on medium heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add to blender along with tomato paste, salt, and pepper and blend until smooth.

4. DOUGH: combine almond flour, tapioca starch, garlic powder, baking powder, and salt to a bowl. Stir well and set aside.

5. Combine chia eggs, olive oil, and water in a bowl. Stir well and add to almond flour mixture.

6. Knead dough until well combined and roll out thinly on a large sheet of oiled parchment paper. Bake in oven on 350ºF for 15 minutes. Once time is up remove from oven, top with sauce, cheese, Tempeh bacon, and toppings. Put pizza back in oven for 10-15 minutes.
